Helping decrease injuries

Operating forklifts can be dangerous and may lead to injuries and fatalities in some extreme cases. At Michael Spiller Training Services, our goal is to provide your forklift operators with training that not only helps them use industrial equipment safely but also helps them achieve their targets. The Health and Safety at Work Act etc 1974 and The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 require all operators to be trained and our training programmes adhere to all regulations. Get in touch with us to enquire about our training services.

Training elements and duration

Training consists of three elements. Firstly theory, where all trainees must complete a 25 question theory paper with passing marks of 80%. Secondly pre-shift checks, where all trainees must be able to thoroughly check their truck for faults before operating. And finally the practical element, where the trainees are expected to drive the truck through a testing practical course.
All courses are based on the ITSSAR syllabus and assume a ratio of three trainees to one instructor. For fewer trainees the times may be reduced
  • Novice: 37.5 hours or 5 days
  • Experienced (un-licensed): 20 hours or 3 days
  • Refresher: 1 day
